Hatteras Island Fishing Reports

Offshore, Near Shore, Pamlico Sound Fishing Reports

7/14/2026 Sea Dream Sportfishing

Sea Dream had a good catch of bluefish inshore.

We had a half day trip today, and we didn’t have to go far. There were fish working right in the inlet, so we made our day picking at good sized bluefish and a lone Spanish mackerel! Fishing was good along the beach as well as offshore today, so get up with us to take advantage! Sea Dream Sportfishing, Hatteras

7/9/2026 Open Waters Sportfishing

  • Great Cape Hatteras charter catches on Open Waters.
  • Great Cape Hatteras charter catches on Open Waters.

Today Open Waters hooked up blue marlin which was quite a surprise because they never expected to catch a marlin in just 190 feet of water but there he was. Great fun with this great group.

  • Great Cape Hatteras charter catches on Sea Dream.
  • Great Cape Hatteras charter catches on Sea Draem.

Scattered grass has been the name of the game lately. We worked it as hard as we could and picked a few dolphin out of it. We decided to look for the tunas, and we made a good catch of them before we got swallowed up in more scattered grass. We came back in shallower to get out of it. Had a sailfish come into the spread and we fed a bait back to it. Missed another sail and a few other mystery bites. We had a wahoo sky on a bait while we fought the sail, but it didn’t come tight. The best part of the day, we dodged most of the heavy rain! We have a couple days open in July still, including Saturday and Sunday the 18th and 19th. Get up with us to book! Sea Dream Sportfishing, Hatteras

7/8/2026 Stomy Petrel Sportfishing

Busy fishing day on Stormy Petrel for this charter crew.

Capt. Patteson said he started down near "The Point" this morning and then wandered around finding lots of scattered grass and lots of skipjack tuna, but only ay few mahi. Closer to the shelf break and after lunch there were quite a few blackfin tuna and we caught a couple of keeper yellowfin tuna and then lost another to a shark.

This will be the last Stormy Petrel fishing report likely for this season. Capt. Patteson has moved his boat and currently running his charters our of Oregon Inlet Fishing Center.

7/8/2026 Sea Dream Sportfishing

Lots of fish for Sea Dream charter group.

We finally got a break in the weather so that we could safely run offshore. We landed right on the tuna and had all they wanted by 9:45am. We were back in early and all cleaned up! We have a couple days left open in July and a few in August still, so get up with us to get fishing! Hopefully this crazy weather sorts itself out soon. Sea Dream Sportfishing, Hatteras

7/7/2026 Gecko Sportfishing (Ocracoke)

Great catch for the Gecko Ocracoke crew offshore.

7/7 We had good fishing yesterday with plenty of mahi and even a blue marlin crashed the party. 7/8 We made a quick trip to the boatyard this morning to replace a cutlass bearing. Thanks to Hatteras Boatyard for getting us in and out like a nascar pit crew. 252-921-0095 Gecko Sportfishing Charters (Ocracoke).

6/30/2026 Sea Angel Sportfishing

Sea Angel group has awesome catch offshore.

Been watching the thunderstorms and wind blow the last few days, but after tomorrow it looks like we will get a little stretch of pretty weather. We have a walk on group for Thursday. As of now we have two guys that are locked in, looking for two more at $500 a person. That includes the mates tip. If I get more than 2 people the price will be split equally between all persons. Call or text me at 757-870-1680! Bottom fish, mahi, and blackfin tuna are the targets! Sea Angel Sportfishing Charters.

Speck-Tackler group has awesome catch on big red drum.

Wow, did we get lucky on this trip! We were looking to site cast some red drum on a very cloudy day, which is almost impossible, and the fish popped up right in front of our boat. They came right to us and went under and around the boat! All 4 anglers, Herb Hand, his son, Herb Jr , Logan, and Dantrell cast into the school and hooked up pretty much immediately. It was a scramble, getting the fish into the boat and getting a photograph quickly so the fish could be released. They were able to swim away with no effort. The group did great fighting and handling the fish afterwards. It was definitely a fun and exciting experience for everyone involved! Speck-Tackler Light Tackle Charters.

6/27/2026 Speck-Tackler

Speck-Tackler catches first cobia of the season.

Well, it finally happened again for us this season. After getting some fresh bait from captain (Motor Boat Operator) "Reel Swirly", who owns that ice cream shop in Buxton village across from Angelo's, we were able to hook and land this nice Cobia after an hour and a 1/2 of waiting for a bite. Bait fishing for Cobia takes a lot of patients and a lot of positive thinking and it paid off for us. I think Chris, Ryan, and Kyle wish they had been a little closer to the rod that the Cobia bit, but for some reason Greg had the golden horseshoe on this day. We put that big fish in a dip net, and he still had a lot of spunk when it hit the deck, so I had to calm him down a little bit with the club.. We picked up a few Bluefish and a nice Spanish Mackerel. The boys even gave me a piece of Cobia meat for Donna and myself to enjoy for the 1st time this year. Speck-Tackler Light Tackle Charters.

Anglers showing off fish from a good day out of Cape Hatteras.

We’ve been slacking on the posts lately. Between weather and slow fishing, there hasn’t been much excitement to post. Today, we had a great group of long time friends with us today! We started the day on the blackfin tuna and got all we wanted. We found some grass after that and worked for our few dolphin. We would get a school up and either sharks would scare them off, or the school would be too finicky to eat. We picked at a few for dinner though. Thanks for fishing with us! July is filling up. Get up with us to book before it’s gone! Sea Dream Sportfishing, Hatteras

6/24/2026 Speck-Tackler

Great resultson the Lnager Days trip.

I was very glad to be able to get Warren Ideal and his family, Michael, Jen and Rob out for some pretty good red drum fishing. The weather has been making in rough and we are having to work through a lot of wind these days, but have been able to put a decent catch together. Speck-Tackler Light Tackle Charters.

6/22/2026 Stormy Petrel

Anglers showing off fish from a good day out of Cape Hatteras.

A special thanks to the Langford clan who has been fishing with us every June for almost 20 years. We had subpar conditions with badly scattered grass and heavy current, but we stuck with it and caught some blackfin tuna and skipjack tuna. Important news, Stormy Petrel is moving to the Oregon Inlet Fishing Center at the first of July for the rest of this immediate season. Stormy Petrel Charters.

6/21/2026 Longer Days Sportfishing

Great resultson the Lnager Days trip.

We found some fish in the deep first thing and got a couple dozen mahi before they left us. We covered a lot of water in the deep before coming back shallower and caught a wahoo and a nice molphin inside the 100 ft. line. Then we jigged a couple amberjack to finish the day and headed home. Lots of bluefish on Speck-Tackler today.

It's a lot of fun when you get anglers who are so excited to catch fish and have the fishing skills to get the job done! It's been a few years since I've taken James Lynch, Chip and his son Barrett fishing. We're still catching a few Pamlico Sound bluefish however they've gotten a little bit smaller, but in my opinion, this size is a lot better to eat. I also had one of the first Stone Crabs of the season. I'm always amazed how thick their shell is. Luckily, they move very slow because if one pinched you on the finger, you probably lose some of it. Nice Cape Hatteras tuna catch on Sea Dream.

There was a lot of grass again today, but it wasn’t formed up nicely. We spent some time looking for the dolphins, but they just weren’t to be found today. Made it to the tuna grounds, and it was all you could want. Eventually, the scattered grass pushed over that area as well, and we spend some more time looking for them. We did raise a sailfish, but it wouldn’t commit to a bait. Looks like a little change in wind direction in the next few days, so hopefully it’ll line this grass up better for us. Sea Dream Sportfishing, Hatteras

6/21/2026 Sea Angel Sportfishing

Hatteras Mahi still biting for Sea Angel.

Fishing was a little tough today, but we scrapped out enough for a meal or two! Thank you Jack, Lois, and Marshall for fishing with us today, we had a blast! Sea Angel Sportfishing Charters.

Let me catch y’all up on what’s been coming across our stern! Dolphin fishing has been great, along with some billfish action! Half day Spanish mackerel and bluefish fishing has also been consistent. Grass, grass, and more grass today. It was scattered all over the ocean today, which makes for tougher fishing. We picked at dolphin and blackfin tuna through the day and made a good catch, with a few gaffers in the mix! Sea Dream Sportfishing, Hatteras

It sure made me feel good when Kodi and Alisha McCall from West Virginia, said it was the best catch they've ever had on a charter, including the ones they've done down in Florida. We ended up with a good catch of Bluefish and our limit of Puppy Drum. Fishing has been tough the last couple weeks, so I was glad we were able to put a catch together. Btw... Kodi is the spitting image of a guy who lives here on the island. Speck-Tackler Light Tackle Charters.

It was a slow pick through a bunch of scattered grass, but the guys held in with us and we battled through it, one fish at a time most of the day. Went deep looking for a possible Billfish and caught more Dolphin. Came back inshore and caught a White Marlin. Fate sometimes has a better plan than me. While fighting the White a thunderstorm moved over top of us that delivered a white out lightning strike beside us and a huge waterspout that hit the water a ways in front of us. That was Mother Nature’s way of saying we had caught enough fish for the day. I took her warning and headed home. Longer Days Sportfishing Charters.

Jack Herbert brought his friends Ted Rich and John along for their third fishing trip of the week, and we did really get on Puppy Drum and a few Bluefish. A few of the fish were too big to keep and had to be released, but we caught our fair share of smaller keeper sized Pups. Speck-Tackler Light Tackle Charters.

Beautiful sailfish released yesterday on Sea Dream.

Our group yesterday was able to get this picture of the sailfish mid jump. Pretty cool! We have 4 days left open in June (15, 17, 21, 29). They won’t last too much longer! Get up with us to book. Still have a little availability in July and August as well, including just a few weekend dates. Sea Dream Sportfishing, Hatteras

Little known secret at Ocracoke NC, Capt. Ernie's Gecko (offshore) and Drumrunner (inshore) are able to run awesome charters most every day despite weather issues that can keep other charter boats at the docks. Currently Drumrunner is still tracking down giant schools of red drum for their angler clients. If you get canceled on your vacation charter, one of these Drumrunner trips can save the day and your vacation. Gecko Sportfishing, Ocracoke Island

6/2/2026 Stormy Petrel

Giant amberjack on Stormy Petrel.

Capt. Patteson reported he has been mostly running birding trips for the last three weeks but yesterday he had a 6 hour wreck trip. A bit breezy with some cross chop on a NE swell but Jeff and his family did a great job angling some hefty amberjacks. We released several and kept a few for the table. Also picked up a Cobia off the bottom. No groupers this day, but we often get them too. We have just a few days open in June, which is a great month off Hatteras. Stormy Petrel Charters.

  • Sea Dream anglers posing with their day's catch.
  • Sea Dream angler with nice wahoo he caught out of Hatteras.

Where we ended up fishing it was scattered grass and wind blown streaks of sargasum. It made it tough fishing for us, but we scrapped out a catch of gaffers and even a nice wahoo. Looks like the coming weather will have us tied up to the dock for a while now until it settles out. We still have a few open days this month, including a couple weekend days. Call us to book! The Hatteras fishing is already looking very promising for the summer. Sea Dream Sportfishing, Hatteras

6/2 Mike King caught a fish of a lifetime when he landed this estimated 60 pound, Big Red Drum on 10 pound test tackle. The fish was almost 50 inches long with a 30 inch girth and a spot formation, looking like a "7" on it's tail. Way to go Mike! The angle of the picture does not show the true girth of this magnificent fish.

6/3 Jace and his best friend Mari, from the Western part of Virginia, caught some Bluefish and a few Stingrays. It was fairly slow day of catching, but the boys hung in there and gave it they're all.

6/4 A bunch of us guides took the University of North Carolina Fishing School on their annual inshore fishing trip, and Andrea and her husband Courtney, along with Ray Moore, fished with me. It was another windy day in Hatteras, but we were able to catch a few fish.

6/6 We had a really fun day when Jason took his fishing buddies Jackson and Zander fishing with me for the second time. Last year, we were able to cast for Spanish Mackerel in the ocean, but this year we stayed back in the shallows and did real good on Bluefish and a few keeper Puppy Drum.
